    Description

YOU ARE BIDDING ON 2 typed letters of American composers.
    1) WILLIAM BERGSMA (1921-1994); dated January 17, 1986 with business envelope
"Forgive my usual glacial pace in answering your letter of August 7; I hope your August 22 recital went well.
THREE FANTASIES are newly reprinted by Plymouth Music Co., St Petersburg, FL. I revised pedalling and phrasing some.
Good heavens! Cecile Genhart taught pianists, a state I could never aspire to. I wrote them at Eastman as a student; Genhart liked composers. I don't believe she ever played them herself. A fellow student, Sylvia Muehling, gave the first performance. They haven't ever been recorded, which surprises me a bit; they've been played a lot.
    Apologies and best wishes."
    (signed) William Bergsma
    2) JACK BEESON (1921-2010); dated November 17, 1970 without envelope; BEESON known for his opera, LIZZIE BORDEN
"I am sorry to say that there are at present no openings in our department for a person with your qualifications. I shall be happy to retain the information pending the time that we may have occasion to consider an opening."
(signed) Jack Beeson (Chairman, MacDowell Professor of Music)
