    = Semyon Matveyevich Kozolupov
    (1984-1961), the greatest cellist of the twentieth century, occupies an exceptional place in the history of Russian cello art. The formation of the world famous Soviet cello school is associated with his name. Kozolupov's performance was distinguished by great virtuosity and deep, full sound. Many works for cello by Baroque composers and little-known Russian authors were published under his editorship. Kozolupov's pupils include Mstislav Rostropovich, Svyatoslav Knushevitsky, Fedor Luzanov, Valentin Feigin and many other outstanding cellists.
