J.S. BACH-WELL-TEMPERED CLAVIER-48 Preludes & Fugues --- ALEXANDER BOROVSKY (1889-1968) Russian-American pianist-4 CD Box Set-Limited Edition.
The 44 page insert notes were written by Borovsky.
The original recordings (on 10-11" acetate tapes never before released to the public) were recorded in 1955 in a New York studio.
The original tapes have been digitally restored; other inserts speak to history of recording by one of Borovsky's private piano students.
BOROVSKY was born in Libau, Russia. Taught by his mother, who had been a pupil of Safonov; and later with Annette Essipova (second wife of Leschetizky) at St. Petersburg Conservatory, winning a Gold Medal and the Anton Rubinstein Prize in 1912. Borovsky was music tutor to the 6 nephews of the Czar.
Borovsky professed at Moscow Conservatory from 1915-1920; between the two World Wars toured widely as concert pianist. Settled in USA from 1941. A vast repertoire with strong emphasis on the works of Bach and Liszt, performing over 2,500 concerts.
Borovsky performed 23 times with the Boston Symphony.
