Mississippi 1890 Census of Civil War Veterans or their Widows.  A good substitute for the burned population schedules.
The information in this index appears in the following order: surname, given name, county, locale, supervisor['s district and enumerator's district.
Example: Kitchens, Lewis, Lawrence, Ratcliffe, 5, 67. The information on "Obtaining a census copy" lists four different ways to access census information.
The intent was to enumerate Union veterans or their widows; however, many Confederate veterans or their widows were enumerated, especially in MO where the state was divided between Union soldiers and Confederate soldiers.
