Description
You are bidding on a very rare original antique engraving from an 1870s French illustrated journal.It depicts a beautiful Llewellin Setter named Rack. Nice representation of what the breed looked like over 135 years ago.
Llewellin Setter is a very specific, pure strain of "English Setter with bloodlines tracing back to the breeding program of nineteenth century sportsman R. L. Purcell Llewellin. Llewellin and Edward Laverack played a key role in the development of the breed.
The caption identifies the dog as Rack, a pure blood Laverack setter.
It is very large (folio size), measuring approximately 10.5 x 14.5 inches (26.5 x 36.5 cm). The picture area is about
8.5 x 5.5 inches (21.5 x 14 cm), with a French caption below and unrelated text above it. The text could easily be trimmed before framing, or hidden under a window mat.
The page is in excellent condition.
