Description
This is a wonderful 19th century french plate celebrating the at one time well known french opera "Joséphine vendue par ses soeurs", a parody of Méhul's biblical opera, Joseph et ses frères. Composed by Victor Roger (22 July 1853 – 2 December 1903) a French composer. He is best known for his operettas, particularly the lighter kind known as the "vaudeville-opérette". The plate is in very good condition for it's age no cracks or chips. I can't decipher the makers marks on the back if you can please let me know who made this wonderful victorian piece. Made with two holes in the bottom rim so you can hang it on the wall as a decoration if you desire. Measurements 8.3/4" wide x 1." deep. Please view all photos with care.
