AFRICAN KUBA ISHEENE MWALU HELMET MASK FROM DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO

Description

This beautiful piece was purchased from a local collection, measurements are approximately 14" tall by 12" deep by 10" wide. This is a 20th century mask from the Kuba Tribe in DRC. The size indicates this mask was likely used  every several years when a group of boys will be induced into manhood which transforms uncircumcised boys into initiated men who possess esoteric knowledge. The mask is in very good condition with some wear, light cracking, a few missing shells etc. Overall the mask has held up wonderfully and is very solid.
