The late David Bowie stands out as a prominent figure in the history of music, not just for his sound, but for his frequently changing stage personas. Imagery for this release of The Royal Mint's British Music Legends series is based upon Bowie's 1973 guise as Aladdin Sane, a moniker which is a whimsical play on the words "a lad insane."
This 2021 David Bowie coin contains 1 Troy oz. of .999 fine silver.
The coin represents the third release of the Legends of British Music series.

Stunning Tribute to David Bowie
Obverse: An effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is located on the obverse, surrounded by the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II," "D.G. REG. F.D." and "2 POUNDS."
Reverse: The reverse features an incredibly lifelike rendition of David Bowie, with an Aladdin Sane inspired lightning bolt and a field of randomly shaped stars in the background. "BOWIE" is inscribed below, amid a pattern of diagonal stripes. Near the coin's rim, the repeating inscription "2021 1 OZ FINE SILVER 999" encircles the design. All imagery of the coin is credited to sculptor Jody Clark, a coin designer for the Royal Mint since 2012.
